Continuation of Googlicious • 10.14.07
The first round was so much fun I’ve decided to make this a weekly series. I get several google searches for twenty something and other things that make sense, but that’s not entertaining. The purpose of googlicious is to pick the funny/odd keyword searches.
- 101 ways to annoy your parents - I am not sure why I keep coming up for ways to annoy people, it has never been my goal in life to annoy anyone
- all opposed say yay - yeah that is my pet peeve. Check out my previous post if you want to know the different between yeah, yay, & yea.
- bra back fat - yeah, sorry to tell you honey you need a new bra.
- convertible shoe - that was crazy, the photo is here along with several other crazy shoes
- do you need friends in your 30s - I’m sorry for whoever is looking for the answer to this question, my answer would be friends are important for every age
- doom generation x y - are we doomed? I don’t get it.
- fun friday ideas - here’s my idea … join our 20something group and check out the crazy postings in our blogroll
- funny, dads - I’m not an expert and I don’t have any advice to make your dad funny, but I will tell ya my dad is funny
- impulse spending addiction and stop credit card addiction - hey I hear your pain buddy, maybe you should try freezing your credit card
- im in ur side / stealin ur heartz - oh how I love those cute little kitties
- one hundred one ways to do something - how can I help you if you don’t even know what it is you want to do?
- pink ipod - Oh yes I love ipods and I especially love the pink shuffle - I won one and then I bought one for my friend.
- speak like gen y - do we have our own language?
- spellr - that was my play on words for the crazy flickr speller
- stalkerific - that is very odd, at first this word was funny but what if some crazy stalker actually is stalkerific. Should we be scared?
On a related note … I just checked my spam comments and this was one that was flagged as spam "There are three kinds of women: the pretty ones, the ugly ones, and the blondes…" — Now what exactly is that supposed to mean? Blondes aren’t pretty or ugly we are just our own set of beauty standards?
Comin’ Round the Bend • 10.12.07
I wanted to let you gals know of two things I am participating in.
"On October 15th - Blog Action Day, bloggers around the web will unite to put a single important issue on everyone’s mind. In its inaugural year, Blog Action Day will be co-ordinating bloggers to tackle the issue of the environment."
If you want to join in you still have time. I already have a section on this blog dedicated to going green so this topic is familiar for me.
The second thing coming up is NaBloPoMo. When I first saw this on alydabear’s blog I was like hello girl spell check haha. Come to find out it stands for "National Blog Posting Month." I think it should be only National Blogging Month it’s much easier (in my head at least). I blog almost every day so I figured "what the heck let’s go." To make it more interesting I decided to come up with one theme that would last the whole month. So I will be doing the ABCs of life in your twenties. The first day will be all A things - adjustment, etc - you get the idea. So that leaves me with a few days at the end to figure out (open to ideas). For all you lolcat lovers isn’t the badge so funny.
sidenote: If you don’t like lolcats I think we will have to break up because clearly it’s not working out.
Hump Day Humor: Googlicious • 10.10.07
My last post was about using Google Analytics as a form of monitoring your blog traffic progress. What I didn’t tell you is that it has also be a great form of entertainment. I will take the lead from The Laidback Buddhist & Alydabear and turn my google keyword searches in to public domain.
gen pink
For some reason it surprises me that the #1 keyword search is gen pink. How do people even know what that is to search for it. I made it up.
martha stewart modeling photos
Yes, that is old news. Martha Stewart used to model.
101 positions one hundred
I can only imagine what they were looking for. I did have a post of 101 different 101 lists that’s the best I can help you with your search for "positions".
gengreen
I am pretty grumpy about this one. When I first started GenPink I decided to add a section about little tidbits about "going green" I came up with GenGreen and then did a search to see if anyone was using that name. And according to google the answer WAS no. Well last week I was notified that gengreen is now trademarked soooo please refer to Girls Gone Green if you are looking for ways to green your life.
twenty something financial tips
Here’s my financial tip - spend less than you make and life will be happy. No I joke, you can find financial tips for twenty somethings understand the category called finances (bet you never would have guessed that).
1001 ways to annoy your roommate
That is pretty funny. I have had my fair share of roommates but I don’t think I could come up with 1001 ways to annoy them.
generation x birth dates
The answer to that question is … there are no set dates. If you care to know more check out When does Gen X end and Gen Y begin.
life in your thirties
Sorry can’t help you I’m trying to figure out my twenties. I’ll let ya know when I get there. I did watch an Oprah episode about the difference between life in your thirties vs twenties.
Promoting your blog • 10.10.07
A friend of mine emailed me today and asked me how she could grow the traffic on her blog. After quickly answering her via email I decided that several of you guys (mostly gals) would like this information as well.
Looks DO Matter
With blogs first impressions make a difference. There are so many free blog templates out there, so there is really no excuse for having an ugly blog theme. Find one you like and then customize it. Don’t go overboard with widgets and badges. Remove unnecessary items from your sidebar. I can guarantee you I will never go back and click on a post from September of ‘06. I might if you have links to post titles of your favorite posts or top posts.
Know Where They are coming from
Just like reaching goals in life you must have something to measure against. If you don’t know how many people are visiting now and where they are coming from, how will you know you are improving? I use Google Analytics & MyBlogLog to track where my traffic is coming from. I can even tell which keywords someone searched to get to me.
Claim Your Blog
Claim your blog on Technorati to keep track of your blog’s ranking. Again, it is important to measure progress.
Make Friends & Play Nice
Join online networking groups & make friends with fellow bloggers. I am a member of Twenty Something Bloggers (we have over 80 members). I also join communities on MyBlogLog of sites that I visit often. Befriend other bloggers on Technorati, MyBlogLog and any other social networking group you belong to. Make friends with fellow mommy bloggers or single girls, fellow career bloggers or anything that interests you.
Comment on other Blogs
Most blog readers are fellow bloggers. Visit blogs similar to yours and leave meaningful comments. Return comments on your own blog. I use Google Reader to keep up with the blogs that I read. If you read more than 5 blogs I highly recommend you use some sort of blog reader to keep up.
Content is King
No matter how hard you work to build traffic the most important part of your blog is your content. Your blog’s content must keep the visitors once they get their. Use an introduction section or an about page to let other’s know what your blog is about.
How do you promote your blog?
