Learn Something New Every Day06.30.08

I had so much fun a few month ago with the ABCs series and I had a lot of positive feedback that the consistency of knowing something would be up everyday was nice. So I’ve decided for the month of July I’m going to do a daily post of “learning something new every day.” So … stay tuned! And feel free to send me any ideas for something we could learn about. :D

mini blogging05.27.08

When there is no time for major league blogging there is always mini blogging. Some call it micro blogging but I like to call it mini blogging because really it’s just me reposting randomness I’ve round around the web.

My mini blogging consists of twitter and tumblr.

Here’s the randomess I’ve found recently:

Check out & subscribe/follow to my tumblr to keep being informed of the randomness that I find in the great world wide web. PS send me fun stuff you find or comment on here.

What’s next for GenPink?04.09.08

The lack of post today is due to the fact that I am working on about 18 things at once. One of which is I am redesigning GenPink. I’m hoping to launch the redesign on my actual blogiversary but we’ll see.

Anyway, I need your input. For my redesign I am making plans for year 2 of GenPink and I’d like to know which categories/topics you guys would like to see more of. So … on the right there is a category drop down box, look through that and come comment back here to let me know which categories I should feature more often. I am also open to new topic ideas if you have some. I guess this is my way of asking - what would you like to see for year 2 of GenPink?

PS: *I’m looking for guest bloggers, might it be you? http://www.genpink.com/advice/

El Favorito01.18.08

The lovely Lisa of 20sb (twentysomething bloggers) notified me that I was nominated for an award for our 1st 20SB Semi Annual Blogging Awards and as a nominee I was to send in 3 of my favorite posts. You’d think this wouldn’t be such a hard thing, but I tell you it really is. I did eventually come up with 3 to send to her but in actuality I have 5 favorite posts. So I decided why not share those with my favorite freaders (friends/readers):

My favorite posts of 2007 (posted in date order):

  • What is GenPink: my first post ever! It’s always fun for me to go back and read this post to see how well I am doing to meet my goals for GenPink
  • 101 one hundred and ones: Since we all love lists and I am forever seeing 101 ways to do this-that-or-the-other I decided one day to make a collection of 101 lists until I came up with 101 different 101 lists. Some of the lists are silly and others are quite interesting.
  • Twenty Something Advice: Don’t plan your life based on what other people expect: This is when the idea came to me have guest bloggers add advice for myself and other twenty somethings. I think this first guest post is very powerful advice.
  • What do you know in your 30s that you didn’t know in your 20s?: I am a huge fan of learning from other people’s experiences and I am always looking for advice from other’s on how to improve my life.
  • Today’s Voices: This post is about my first blogebrity moment when I was mentioned in an article on Yahoo Finance. In this entry I get to react to the idea of being young and still being seen as an authority.

I encourage you to check out those 5 posts and leave me your thoughts in the comments. I also encourage you to go back through your archives and see which posts you are most proud of for 2007. It’s quite interesting to go back and see what all you’ve had to say in the past year.

Congratulations and good luck to everyone who was nominated for an award. Be sure to vote for your favorites! (hint hint wink wink)

What is GenPink?04.20.07

GenPink is short for Generation Pink. GenPink will be the ramblings and insights of living life as a twenty something working woman.

Let’s just start with how this idea came to me. I am an idea person. Quite frequently I find myself coming up with new ideas about this or that. Most of the time I will share my fabulous idea with a friend. Usually that idea never comes to fruition because it is soon replaced by a bigger and better idea. Well the idea for GenPink came to me a few days ago and for some reason this one stuck (at least for now).

The idea manifested from my love of technology and my interest in the vast knowledge of the web. I am forever finding some new site that I absolutely love. Some of those sites I become interested in and don’t share with my friends (most of my friends are not as nerdy as me). There is the occasional site that I find that I think it just too great to pass up and I take a few moments to write up a little blurb (hey guys I found this fun site) then I send it out mass email to my friends. For some reason rarely are they as excited as me.

Instead of barraging my friends with all my great findings of fun little sites here and there I decided to create a blog. This will accomplish a few things.

  1. I meet new people with similar interests
  2. All of my random findings will be stored in once place
  3. I can stop pestering me friends (probably not though)

So lets start small. Here is a list of my favorite fun websites that I believe make my life easier.

  1. del.icio.us - This is a great way to save your favorite websites all in one place. You can use tags to keep everything organized. I am constantly changing from 3 different computers and I love that no matter where I am I can have access to my favorites. I am so diverse that the amount of bookmarks and categories (tags) I have is a bit ridiculous. Another fun thing is you can network with people and send them a link that you think they might be interested in.
  2. evite - Everyone who knows me knows I am in love with evite. I’m not sure what there is to say about evite other than you should register and create your address book with groups so that sending invitations is speedy.
  3. Cool Site of the Day - The title pretty much says it all. I am on their email list, so every day I get some random "cool" site emailed to me. Some of them are better than others.
  4. 9rules - I’m not really sure how to describe this site so here is their about us - "9rules is a place where members and readers can connect, build relationships, gain exposure, learn new things, and have fun."

I don’t want to give away all my material on my first post so I will leave more for later.

Leave me some comments. What topics would you like to discuss?

GenPink is about being a twenty something woman. Letting others know how our generation is different than those before us. We are career women, single & married, girl friends, and individuals. There is a delicate balance in being an individual and being part of a support system for your friends, family and your environment. GenPink is about balancing family and work, technology, entertainment, and exploration of new ideas. Boys are welcome as long as they promise to play nice and not be too embarrassed when we talk about bras.
