Grapevine Mills promotions support Susan G. Komen

Visitors to Grapevine Mills will notice that the Guest Services booth will be outfitted in pink and staff will be honoring National Breast Cancer Awareness Month by donning pink accessories. Other planned activities include:

  • Voucher Program: At select Simon Mills and Premium Outlets, $10 voucher cards, available at Guest Services, will offer 25 percent off one item at all participating retailers. One hundred percent of these donations will benefit Komen.
  • Local Programming: On Saturday, October 24 from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m., Grapevine Mills will host the Baylor University Media Center’s Mobile Mammography Unit in the parking lot 4B near The Children’s Place. Area-residents are encouraged to attend this event. To schedule your life-saving screening, please call 214-820-3040. Guests are required to bring their insurance card and photo ID to their appointment.
  • Surprise and Delight: Generate awareness of Susan G. Komen’s National Breast Cancer Awareness Month by surprising randomly selected shoppers with ‘Mission Pink’ treats as they shop.
  • Wall of Strength – For a $1 donation, survivors, families and / or friends write their message of strength on a foam board “brick”, are encouraged to take a picture and post their picture on our Wall of Strength and share via social media. Customers may visit guest services for more information.

 

During October 2015, Simon is proud to support Susan G. Komen through various fundraising initiatives, and along with the help of generous customers, will guarantee a contribution of at least $250,000.

A Wish with Wings is Texas’ first wish-granting agency. In 32+ years, more than 1,350 wishes have been granted to Texas children fighting life-threatening medical conditions. Get involved with this charity in a neat way throughout October by attending a tour of the 2015 Fort Worth, Texas Magazine Dream Home. BelkGives on the Go Mammography Center

Throughout October at participating Belk locations 

Belk is bringing their BelkGives Mobile center to North Texas throughout October. The center will park in front of the local Belk stores and provide free breast cancer screenings to the community. Women over 40 who are interested in the free service can contact the center for an appointment. See more details on the Belk website.

Choctaw Casinos matches funds raised by guests for breast cancer research

To support the Susan G. Komen foundation, many Choctaw Casino locations, including our neighboring one in Durant, will donate 100 percent of the sales from select specialty cocktails in October. Guests can also make cash donations and purchase specialty menu items and pink T-shirts at most locations. Additionally, the casino has announced a dollar for dollar match, up to $100,000, for money raised collectively by all of the locations, making the total potential donation up to $200,000.  Visit their website for more information. 

Leukemia Texas Concert for a Cure

October 8, 2015, 7 p.m.

The 3rd Annual Beat Leukemia Concert for a Cure will feature the local music of Ray Johnston Band, Event Chairs Leigh Ann & Courtney Kerr, and Honorary Chair Lynn McBee. All proceeds will benefit the Leukemia Texas Patient Aid & Research Programs. General Admission is FREE and VIP tickets are $75 and includes hors d’oeuvres, beverages, open seating and valet parking. The Amazing Global Race

Join Fort Worth Mayor Betsy Price for a global challenge called The Amazing Global Race. Teams of four will walk, run and ride to eight international stations attempting various challenges along the way to reach the finish line at Burnett Plaza. This event benefits the Sister Cities of Fort Worth, and members are asked to raise $250.

 

Bark for Life at Mutts Canine Cantina

Join Nelson the Goldendoodle, as he fights back against cancer and celebrates canine caregivers at the American Cancer Society’s Bark for Life fundraiser at Mutt’s Canine Cantina (2889 CityPlace West Blvd). Money raised through the $35 registration fee and donations help fund the lifesaving mission of the American Cancer Society. On Wednesday, Oct. 21, the cast of 106.1 KISS-FM will devote their airtime to educating listeners about The Kraddick Foundation and the Kidd’s Kids program, and asking for financial support. The audience will hear directly from children and families that are attending this year’s 24th-annual trip and many others that have experienced previous trips.

Listeners may support Kidd’s Kids Day in several ways: Donations can be made online through the Kidd’s Kids website, KiddsKids.com, or KiddsKids.com/mobile, through the Southwest Airlines Kidd’s Kids Day Donation Hotline (888) 792-5439/(888) SWA-KIDZ from 6am-12pm(CST), or by texting “KIDD” to “52000” to donate $10. You can also donate in person all day at more than 100 Raising Cane’s Chicken Fingers restaurants nationwide. Raising Cane’s will also donate 15% of net proceeds from its sales on October 21 at those participating restaurants to Kidd’s Kids. This year’s Kidd’s Kids Day partners are Southwest Airlines, Raising Cane’s and Cantina Laredo/CRO.

 

Sons of the Flag Film Festival

The Stars & Stripes Film Festival features four days of inspiring films and appearances from special guests like Gen. Tommy Franks, the original Windtalkers and others. The festival takes place at the Angelika Film Center in Dallas, and proceeds benefit Sons of the Flag, a resource for military and first-responder burn survivors. Random Art Gallery will host a pop-up exhibition titled, “Beyond the Paint” Thursday, Nov. 12 (7-10 p.m.) featuring intimate new portraits by visual artist Toni Martin that the artist hopes will offer perspective into the lives of 12 local women who have overcome extreme hardships. A portion of proceeds will benefit Genesis Women’s Shelter, a 501(c)(3) dedicated to end the epidemic of domestic violence against women and children by stopping individual victimization and reducing the devastating impact of family violence through safety, shelter and expert services to battered women and their children.

A project five years in the making, Martin will illustrate each woman’s moving story through their portrait without judgment or unwanted attention, as most of the portraits will remain anonymous. Tickets to the pop-up exhibition are $20 and can be purchased here.

 

Pints for Pups

A typical event is hosted at dog-friendly venues and has live music, food vendors, dog-related vendors and services, adoptable dogs, and some of our favorite local, craft beers. Nov. 7 (11 a.m. to 1 p.m.): The 3rd Annual Brew HaHa – this unique workout at Oak Highlands Brewery encourages participants to engage in a workout involving keg hoists, grain bag toss, a freezer room challenge and more. Entry also includes beer tasting.

Nov. 21: Chamberlain Studios is offering a free public women’s self defense course with lunch compliments of Primo Brother’s Pizza (childcare available).
