GenPink Picks: Summer Books
One of my goals this summer is to make time to read more books. There are so many new titles out there, and I’ve rounded up a few to share. Let us know what you’re reading this season by commenting below!
Meeting Eve, written by Janee Pennington, is an inspirational read for the Gen-Y career girl. In Pennington’s debut novel, readers will get to walk in the shoes of an event planner entrepreneur, Eve. The story chronicles Eve’s life at a fast-paced workplace while she tries to balance a social life with friends, family and dating. And if things couldn’t get busier, she accepts an event planning project overseas. The obstacles Eve goes through are funny and teaches quite a few lessons to those beginning their careers after college. Meeting Eve is a delightful and funny story that inspires women to chase their dreams and live life to the fullest.
Uganda Be Kidding Me
Fans of late-night talk show host Chelsea Handler will enjoy reading her latest book, Uganda Be Kidding Me. Handler’s jokes are polished and hysterical, so expect many LOL moments throughout the book. She chronicles her journey of visiting a few countries across the world and isn’t afraid to share the any humiliation. The book showcases Handler’s comedic talent and proves that she has one of the freshest voices in comedy today.
“A #GIRLBOSS is in charge of her own life. She gets what she wants because she works for it.” Another great read for the Gen-Y career girl is #GirlBoss by Sophia Amorusa.
Amorusa is the CEO and creative director of Nasty Gal, a $100 million plus online fashion retailer. The story shows Amorusa’s path to starting up her own company and all the failures and successes she’s found along the way. Even as CEO she’s willing to get her hands dirty to drive success and uphold her business reputation. The book offers career advice to young women and shows Amoura’s entrepreneurial spirit. At 30 years old, Amoursa is a business and cultural icon who has created one of the most coveted brands for our generation.
The Divergent Series
For an action-pack read, pick up Divergent by Veronica Roth. The novel features a strong female character, Beatrice Prior, who rebels against the norm of the dystopian society. At 16, Beatrice strives to save the people she loves and remains true to herself throughout the journey. If you loved this book, there are two more titles in the series to look forward to.
Think & Grow Rich for Women
Ladies, here’s another must-read career book! Women are the future of business in America. Think & Grow Rich for Women by Sharon Lechter is a powerful book to read in your 20s or early 30s. The book covers case studies of leading women such as Oprah, J.K Rowling, Maya Angelou, Mary Kay Ash and more. The author outlines a master plan for any and all women to reach success.
