thank you! I loved this story> I recently moved to a new town/state/region/friends/job and can’t wait to find my OWN place to settle into. I have thought “I could just keep housesitting for months!” –but your article (and decor8 in general!) has reminded me that I will get sick of other people’s kitchens after a few more weeks. I’ll long for my own space.

Thanks for the great inspiration (: My husband and I are always making changes to our home, painting, renovating, taking out walls. It’s so much fun, hard work, but fun. And it looks amazing at the end. It makes me feel so great to see what we’ve accomplished!

I’ve lived alone for close to a decade. I enjoy it, the unpacking and decorating. Every apartment I’ve had, I’ve decorated completely different. It’s refreshing and uplifting to decorate your home to your own liking, not having to ask anyone else’s opinion.

Wow holly, you like totally inspired me. I think you’re the first one to make the connection between “beautiful house” and “beautiful life”. I’m ready to look at our new place with new eyes. I’m 25, single, and purchased my first home last year completely on my own, after breaking up with my boyfriend of 5 years. It’s good to see that others find some form of therapy in molding their physical environment. It’s also good to see that it’s not unusual to feel overwhelmed and alone when you shoulder such a large responsibility by yourself. My house isn’t big (around 850 square feet, built in 1950), and I’m not rich (I work two library assistant jobs), but I’m trying my damnedest to make it a place I truly love.
