I can’t believe that I haven’t seen my BFF in a month; moving cross country will do that. When I lived in Dallas we ate at least one meal together a week or we would get together for coffee or practically any excuse we could come up with. We chat on the phone frequently but sometimes it would be nice to see each other. One idea is to Skype, FaceTime, GoogleChat, etc with each other once a week. There is just something about seeing each other’s face that makes the distance seem not quite as far (I have to admit that I love technology, it makes the distance not so far).
The other day I was wandering through the freezer section at Publix looking for a cool treat, since it is like a million percent humid here. I found Sara Lee® Double Chocolate Pound Cake Slices and some Breyers® French Vanilla and decided that a simple trifle was needed. I love how fancy trifles look with the different layers.
To make my simple summer trifle, I took a single slice of pound cake and cut it into cubes, chopped a few strawberries into bite size pieces, grabbed the ice cream, and a cute glass. Once I had everything all ready I started layering this in the glass: cake, strawberries, and then vanilla ice cream. I loved how fancy this looked and how easy it would be to change out the flavors or scale up to bring to an end of summer potluck.
Elysa opted for Breyers® BLASTS!® Girl Scout Cookies® Thin Mints® as her quick summer treat for the Virtual Friend Date. She served hers plain in a fancy glass (she mentioned that there are actual chunks on Thin Mints in the ice cream!)
Once we had our different desserts ready we sat down at our laptops for our virtual friend date! It isn’t quite the same as sitting at a restaurant for hours but it is pretty close.
It was great to get to spend time together and laugh about life. It was nice to have a sweet treat during our visit. It is hard to figure out a long-distance BFF but making time for these chats will make it easier. This virtual friend date was the perfect way to finish the weekend.
