Our top picks for books about the A-B-Cs!

Sometimes you want purely fanciful books to read with your little one, and sometimes you want to sprinkle in some education while you’re at it! We love reading the four books below for a fun mix of adventures and learning, all focused on the building blocks of the A-B-Cs.

1. Chicka Chicka Boom Boom

This fun-filled book is about letters of the alphabet chasing each other up a coconut tree! Filled with short rhymes, we like to pair this book with some tropical snacks like pineapple and coconut chips and pretend we’re on a grand adventure to a tropical island. So, pack a picnic and check out this classic!

2. Eating the Alphabet: Fruits & Vegetables from A to Z

Reading this book not only teaches the alphabet but also exposes children to a wide variety of fruits and veggies – from the common strawberry to the more unusual kumquat or rhubarb! This is another great snacking book – chop up a variety of wacky fruits and vegetables, and see if your kids will give them a try after reading about them! Trips to the grocery store have become more interesting since we regularly started reading this book, too.

3. Thomas’ ABC Book

Choo-choo-choooo! Hop on aboard and check out this classic book, filled with pictures from the original Thomas the Train show. If your children aren’t familiar with the show yet, this book will introduce the characters and the alphabet at the same time. And might bring back some nostalgia from your own childhood!

4. Dr. Seuss’s ABC: An Amazing Alphabet Book!

Who can resist a good ol’ Dr. Seuss book? Not us, that’s who! This is a fun one to practice various letter sounds with your children, as each letter is repeated frequently and you can’t help but remember the whimsical phrasing of Dr. Seuss. The book is sturdy and on the smaller side, so it is perfect for popping in your bag for a day out and about. Pick one up and be transported immediately to the magical world of Dr. Seuss!
