I think the most exciting social media work is being done for startups. It's a grassroots chance to form a message around a new idea that everyone's working behind and passionate about. I'd actually rather manage a startup brand compared to a large company! Less beauracracy and egos invovled.

Great post!

Great point about establishing a presence on twitter before pitching your stuff. Build that credibility first and wait before tossing out some pitches. The goal should be to help people first.

This is a great post, Matt. I am a blogger who has just gotten into Twitter in the last several months. I've spent time building my community on twitter and it is really showing in the traffic we're getting to the site. In addition, I constantly meet people I want to network with, interview, etc. and in return I am being interviewed more as well. It's a wonderful tool.

This is a good post, and sums up the way I feel about pumping up my twitter exposure for the right reasons. I'm not sure exactly which way my online exposure is pointing yet, so I don't want to fake out myself and my followers. I have a general sense, and I like to slowly introduce my professional area (lands and First Nations).

Key: "Don’t look like a newbie hopping on Twitter just to pitch. Gain a little bit of status first before you approach the media.".

Thanks folks...
