The Quiet Revolution – discovering the power of introverts

If you follow me on Twitter, then chances are you already know that I’m an introvert. I’d venture to say that a lot of bloggers are introverted. Blogging, and social media in general, are easy ways to communicate without having to drain our energy reserve by being around people all the time. I’ve been fortunate enough to work from home for five years now (this week is my WFH anniversary). In my current role, I do frequently go into the office, but I make sure to schedule in wfh days so I can focus, and recharge. I think it’s important for all work places to consider how people work together. I’m frequently sharing links about introverts in the work place. Rory and I both are on the introverted side of the sliding scale. So it’s not uncommon for us to hide on the weekends. I call this our “hibernating time”.

Whether you consider yourself to be an extrovert or an introvert, it’s important to learn about the behaviors of introverts, a personality type that is often not understood or simply misunderstood. For those who are introverted like me, here’s a new website to check out: the Quiet Revolution. This is a new movement to empower introverts in every aspect of their lives, from work to education to parenting and personal relationships – via a unique set of services and products. (Did you know that introverts make up more than a third of the workforce??)

Co-founded by Susan Cain, author of the global literary phenomenon and New York Times bestseller “QUIET: The Power of Introverts in A World That Can’t Stop Talking,” the Quiet Revolution serves as a hub for content, including essays, advice columns, interviews and profiles. Susan and other notable contributing writers and influencers, including Arianna Huffington and her daughter Isabella and NYT and TODAY.com parenting writer Jessica Lahey, publish to the website frequently.

I should also share here, that QUIET is by far one of my favorite books. I recommend it to everyone.

“After QUIET was published, I started to hear from thousands and thousands of readers,” said Cain, who is co-founder of Quiet Revolution. “They said they felt that for the first time in their lives they had permission to be themselves, and they were eager for the tools to encourage other introverts in their companies, their schools, and their personal lives to feel the same way.”

This fall, Susan will also introduce a new online parenting course designed to guide parents of introverted children. As a mother and former quiet kid herself, Susan knows the importance of educating parents on how to help their introverted kids reach their potential. Check back on the website for updates.

Take a look at Susan’s TED Talk on the power of introverts – a video I think you’ll find fascinating, no matter if you’re introverted or extroverted! While you’re on the website, here’s a short quiz to take to better understand if you’re more of an introvert or extrovert.
