Taking Me Time

brilliant relaxation

One common trait among those of us in our twenties is we are trying to juggle/balance/cram in too many things into each and every day/week/month. Between work, family, friends, taking care of the house and life in general, are you remembering to take time for yourself? I know that I have to make a conscious effort to take time to relax and recharge a bit. I am not really much of a TV watcher but I do love to take time to sit on my couch and veg out and catch up on some Oprah. Oh how I love Oprah. For those of you who are bookworms and spend your down time reading I found a great resource for ya – 100 Notable Books of 2007.

Some ways I spend my “me time”: watching Oprah or Grey’s Anatomy, playing my favorite music on repeat and singing at the top of my lungs, sitting outside and just enjoying life, playing with photoshop, doodling, I used to paint (I think I’m going to start again), long baths, sleeping the day away on the occasional Saturday I don’t have to be somewhere, and once in a blue moon there is reading. What do you do in your “me time”?

  1. While blogging and flickr take up a massive amount of my ‘me time,’ non-techie pursuits are probably a better definition thereof and easier on the eyes.

That said: magazines, magazines, magazines. A comfy bed, couch, or chair and a stack of new glossies is like heaven, and they don’t make me feel guilty like eating a whole bag of Cheez Doodles does (while watching Oprah).

More often though, I’m watching trashy reality shows like Shot at Love with Tila Tequila because, ironically, they are sheer escapism. If I want to feel more high-brow, I watch Intervention MythBusters. ;)

  2. i cook new things (creative), draw, read and blog.
my hubby and i take long walks most nights, and snuggling with him and
    the kitty is always relaxing.

  3. I blog, I read other people’s blogs, I read wedding magazines (recently) or books (normally), I nap, I watch Friends or Sex and the City, and sometimes I dance around the apartment to pop songs I secretly like.

  4. I curl up on the couch with my husband and watch a movie. If it’s just me, I’ll watch trashy TV and give myself a pedi. Sometimes I read, but not lately.

  5. Oh are you reading Wicked? I’m in the middle of it (and really want/need to finish it!).

But besides reading, I like to curl up and watch a movie or label photos or paint my nails or listen to music or dance. Or all of the above at the same time, haha. I love Me time.

  6. My me time is spent, well… with me :) In a long bath, reading or relaxing. Sometimes I try to just sit with a quiet mind and that lasts about 3 min.

  7. Thank you for reminding me how important down time is! I often forget about giving myself any time. It reminds of that song by Kenny Chesney “don’t blink”.

  8. I’d like to paint again too (not that I am any good, but it’s fun). I think I just need a kick in the pants to get me started.

  9. Yoga! I also love all the guilty pleasures mentioned here like reading trashy magazines, watching TV, listen to music, read blogs etc. But yoga is the one thing I do for myself that actually makes me healthier. I do it for the physically workout so I’m not into the “breathing” types of yoga, I want to sweat… but I do find that I feel spiritually better and lighter after a class is over. It cheers me up every time without fail if I’m in a bad mood. I also like to bake.

  10. I think I am the first one to post this, but in my “me” time I knit!! There is something so therapeutic about the repitition, the feeling of the yarn, and completing a beautiful project that I can give to someone else to enjoy. I recommend it to all!
p.s. I am new to your blog, and have enjoyed catching up on all of your insightful posts!

  11. My me time? WOW. Well, since I’ve lived alone for a total of almost 5 years…maybe more? I like being alone obviously and my list is long….
-My number one: listening to music
-I do actually love to work out, but I still don’t have another gym membership yet, four months now and counting….:o(;I am in my own little world at the gym with my headphones on
-draw or paint…I try my best to do at least a little bit every few weeks, even though I want to and should do more;art is my escape!
-I write letters/cards to friends, far away or not and burn c.d.s for them;it’s me time because I do it somewhere fun or with a cup of coffee at my kitchen table
-fashion magazines and bubble baths….or fashion magazines and my bed!
    -movies in my pjs
    -writing in my journal
-organizing my apartment(any part of it); I love to do it and I love how organized everything is when I’m finished;something can always be MORE organized or given away because it’s never used!:o)
-oh how can I forget? the overly indulgent, mani and pedi at the same time! that’s amazingly relaxing too, and you look fabulous afterwards!:o)

  12. …and just as an addition… is it wrong that until now I’ve been interpreting the title of this entry in Pirate Speak, as in arrr, takin’ me time, matey!?

    Im a dork.
    ;)
