The Color Purple Hits a High Note in Dallas

Author: Danyel Buie

Dallas Summer Musicals, Inc. and Broadway Across America are excited to bring the Tony Award®-winning Broadway revival of THE COLOR PURPLE for its Dallas premiere at the Music Hall at Fair Park January 23-February 4, 2018.

The musical is a joyous American classic about a young woman’s journey to love and triumph in the American South. It is a touching and reflective homage to the 1985 film of its namesake which showcases the characters that comedian Whoopi Goldberg and media mogul Oprah Winfrey made so famous.

Cast members include Adrianna Hicks (Aladdin, Sister Act – Germany) as Celie, Carla R. Stewart (Ghost – National Tour, Rent – Regional) as Shug Avery and Carrie Compere (Holler If You Hear Me, Shrek the Musical – National Tour) as Sofia.

THE COLOR PURPLE is adapted for the stage by Tony- and Pulitzer-winner Marsha Norman with music and lyrics by Brenda Russell, Allee Willis and Stephen Bray. Tony Award®-winning director and scenic designer John Doyle (Sweeney Todd, Company) recreates his award-winning work for the national tour, alongside costumes by Ann Hould-Ward, lighting by Jane Cox, sound by Dan Moses Schreier and wig & hair design by Charles G. LaPointe.

The Color Purple Musical is truly an experience. It is a powerful story told beautifully in song. The set design is just as captivating as the costumes and it all comes together live for a remarkable night at the theater.  A rendition of the song “I’m Here” is a highlight of the musical and resonates with every audience member, leaving no dry eyes in the house.
