The ever changing desktop

Posted in Design, Photography, Technology on Oct 24, 2007

I am obsessed with changing my wallpaper on my computers (yes there are more than one). Between work and home I regularly use 3 different computers. I have a 23" Mac monitor at work that is amazing at home I have an iMac and a PowerBook. I used to change my wallpaper on each computer once a month, which means weeding through bunches of designs to find the perfect 3.

About a month about I found Desktoptopia and I have been in love oh wait it’s weird to love your computer very happy since the day I downloaded it. My favorite thing about it is I have it set to change my background every 5 hours.

My professors used to tell us that designers should have a gray or neutral background to not distract you in your working environment. I completely disagree, I think designers need inspiration. Or at least this designer does!

This is the background that came up today.

Isn’t it so cute! Yes I am 5 and I love cartoons.

For all of you fabulous designers/photographers/illustrators I know you should submit some of your work. That is yet another thing for me to add to my to-do list.

If you would rather pick your own wallpapers, or you aren’t as obsessed with changing them as often, there are many great resources for desktop backgrounds.

That IS a cute background, and a well-done image as well. I have always used a neutral gray background for my photography computers, but I can see why you’d like bright, interesting things to inspire you.

Ooooh! That’s awesome, I didn’t even know they had rotating desktop wallpapers! I’ll have to install it on the boyfriend’s mac(S) (yes plural!)

And thanks for the mention, now if I can just think of something to submit.

I’m a PC user and I know, I should be shot, but it’s okay, I’ve already died and gone to wallpaper heaven. I’m so happy there are actual tears in the corners of my eyes. Thanks for the mention as well.

God I want a Mac. Too bad I realized this three months after I bought my boring ol’ PC laptop. Sigh.

I completely agree with the “inspiration.” It’s the same with me and music. I guess the difference is, though, musicians are very much encouraged to listen to other music. All kinds of music. Music all the time! I usually listen right up until seconds before I begin writing my own.
