Cocktails: The Oscars edition

Calling all movie junkies! The 84th Annual Academy Awards is THE premier show to catch this “Oscar Sunday”. This awards show is notorious for capturing the glitz and the glam from the most popular movie celebs. Below are a few Oscar-worthy cocktails to sip on while watching the big show. The cool thing here is that these drinks are named after a few of this year’s nominated movies. Cheers!

 Crystal Cosmo

(an ode to this year’s host Billy Crystal)

1 1/2 oz Voli Lyte
1 oz fresh lemon juice
2 oz Cranberry Juice
1/2 oz Agave Nectar Top with Prosecco (OPTIONAL)
Garnish: Lemon twist

In a mixing tin, add ice, Voli Lyte, lemon juice, agave and shake. Stain into a martini glass and top with Prosecco.

 

Sweet Revenge

(inspired by “The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo”)
2 oz Raspberry Cocoa
2 Raspberries
2 Blackberries
1 oz apple cider
1/4 oz maple syrup

Muddle berries, and maple syrup. Add all ingredients then shake and strain.
Glass: Martini. Garnish: Raspberries.

Mary Pickford

(Inspired by “The Artist”) – This is the first silent film poised to win the best-picture Oscar in 83 years, so honor it with a drink named after “America’s Sweetheart” of the silent film era.

Ingredients:
2 oz. Denizen Rum
1 ½ oz. Fresh Pineapple Juice
¼ oz. Maraschino Liqueur
¼ oz. Grenadine.

Combine ingredients in a shaker with ice. Shake and strain into a chilled glass. 

 

 

Tulipe de Lis

(Inspired by “Midnight in Paris” – Created by Marshall Altier) – Celebrate the romance of the Roaring ‘20s in Paris with a French cocktail. 

Ingredients:
2 oz. Denizen Rum
¾ oz. Fresh Lime Juice
¾ oz. St. Germain Elderflower Liqueur
½ tsp. Granulated Sugar.

Place sugar and lime juice in a mixing tin and dissolve sugar. Add remaining ingredients and ice and shake well. Strain into a rocks glass. Garnish with a wedge of lime.

 

Dutch Air Mail

(Inspired by “Moneyball” – Created by Marshall Altier) – No drink is better with baseball than beer. But since this is the Oscars, make it fancy and use it in a cocktail.

Ingredients:
2 oz. Denizen Rum
½ oz. Honey Syrup
*½ oz. Fresh Lime Juice
Dutch Lager BeerSplash
Pink Grapefruit Juice.

Pour all ingredients, except beer, into mixing tin. Add ice and shake. Strain into a tall glass and top with beer. Garnish with a grapefruit peel expressed over the glass.  *Cut 2 Tbsp. honey with 1 Tbsp. hot water and stir or shake until consistent.
