US Open of Surfing 2012 Preview

GenPink is ready for a Californiacation this August!

I’m kicking off my trip by attending the surf heats and skate comps at the most prestigious American surf event, the US Open of Surfing, at Huntington Beach, CA. This annual event is expected to attract more than 500,000 spectators from July 28 – August 5.

The headlining band has still yet to be announced. MGMT rocked the stage last year. Rumor is the band this year will trump them. In that case, it has got to be a huge name, and I can’t wait to find out who will play! What are your predictions? I’m thinking somewhere along the lines of The Black Keys, Fun or that “Call Me Maybe” girl…just kidding on that last part!

In addition to checking out the athletes doing what they do best, many companies will be hosting their own activities around the beach. So far, we learned Rip Curl will be hosting team signings at its store in Huntington Beach on August 3 – 5. And of course, I can’t wait to shop! The retail experience is deemed as a one-of-a-kind experience throughout this event. Additional activities include interactive exhibits, DJs and giveaways, movie premiers and public skate courses.

The event is hosted by Nike (title sponsor), Hurley and Converse (presenting sponsors). IMG, the global leader in sports and entertainment, owns and produces this event. Other companies I’ll look for on the beach are Roxy/Quicksilver, Red Bull, Paul Mitchell, 7-Eleven, Verizon Wireless and much more. And thanks to all of them, no are NO admission fees every year!
