Let’s face it. Every year we make the ultimate New Years resolution list… and every year we know that half of those things on the list won’t survive one month. Whether you’re the Word of the Year or resolution type, how do we our commitments to ourselves something to look forward to again? How do we add some goals to the list that we know we can actually fulfill… better yet, resolutions we want to fulfill? We are a few weeks in to January, so you may be feeling like it’s “too late”, but I’m of the camp that we all need a breather after the holidays and it’s never too late to be more happy, healthy, and awesome in 2019! Here are some ideas for you:
Plan healthy, delicious, and easy meals.
Everybody’s gotta eat, right? Not everyone has time to cook a 5-course meal, while working full-time, and managing a family (animals count, too!). With a little bit of planning, its easy to find healthy and delicious meals to make that won’t break your bank account, and won’t consume all of your precious free time. We use a shared Evernote notebook to keep track of recipes we want to try.
Here’s an interesting twist on a classic: Chipotle chicken bowls:
Or make a meal planning board, like this one…
Find the workout routine that’s right for you.
I think we can all agree that not everyone is meant to be a yogi. There are some of us that yawn at the thought of yoga… and some of us that cannot survive a morning without a sun salutation. There are some of us that get out of bed aching to hear the beat of their shoes on the pavement as they gently gallop like gazelles, and others that feel like a baby giraffe the second we even THINK about lacing up our running shoes.
Exercise is important. Ten out of ten doctors will agree with this statement. But why do we try so hard to force something that we hate? Turn exercise into something you love! Do you love to dance? Try a Zumba or Jazzercise class. Do you need some more tranquility in your life? Put those yoga pants to use and do some yoga. The bottom line is, exercise doesn’t have to be despised, or boring. It can be a power walk after work while catching up with a friend, it can be hiking and reconnecting with nature, it can (and should) be enjoyable!
Believe in yourself.
You are truly amazing, so its time to start acting like it. The truth of the matter is, you are what you think you are and you can do what you think you can do. It’s time to start doing things that inspire us; that ignite that passion that lives inside of us. There will only be one 2019; make it count!
“I believe in Pink. I believe that laughing is the best calorie burner. I believe in kissing. Kissing a lot. I believe in being strong when everything seems to be going wrong. I believe that happy girls are the prettiest girls. I believe that tomorrow is another day and I believe in miracles.”
– Audrey Hepburn
Learn something new.
It is just as important to exercise our brains as it is our bodies. Learning new things keeps our minds fresh and young, no matter how many candles end up on our cakes this year. Bring in the new year with style.
There is something to be said with the infamous quote, “When you look good, you feel good.”
Why not make this the year to ditch the sweatpants and put on something that exudes confidence? Okay, maybe not ditch the sweats completely, because every girl needs that one special ‘treat yo’self’ comfort outfit for a date night with Ben & Jerry… and the fabulous doctors of Grey’s Anatomy! But it IS possible to have great style on any budget. Clean out that closet and be bold.
