Take a Day Off and Treat Yo Self!

While “Treat Yo Self” Day is officially on October 13th of every year, let’s be honest: You need more than one day a year to spend some time indulging in self care. And whether your Treat Yo Self Day needs to happen on a budget, or you’ve got money to spare, we’ve come up with three Treat Yo Self Days that will be, in the words of Donna Meagle, “The best day of the year!”

No Money? Treat Yo Self!

Morning

After letting yourself sleep in, make yourself some breakfast in bed. Go as simple or gourmet as you’d like on this one – you’ve got the whole day, so there’s no rush! Try a breakfast sandwich with scrambled eggs, veggies, cheese, and bacon on a croissant, or a bagel with cream cheese and a yogurt parfait on the side. Don’t forget some hot coffee!

Go on a long walk, with no time limit. Listen to an episode of your favorite podcast, create a playlist, or just enjoy the sounds of nature. While you’re out, pick some flowers (either wild or at your local farmers market) and save them for the next step of Treat Yo Self Day.

Use those flowers you picked to give yourself a face steam. Not only are these super relaxing, but they also smell amazing and are great for your skin! Crush your flowers and place them in a pot of boiling water. Add some essential oils for some added aromatherapy, and place your head over the pot, letting the steam open your pores and relax your skin. Don’t forget to take a few deep breaths – the smell will help you feel super relaxed!

Afternoon

Break out a journal or notepad, and give yourself time to write. Part of treating yourself is giving your body and mind the space they need to relax, and processing through your feelings and thoughts on life will help your brain slow down. For ideas on what to journal about, check out our post, “25 Questions to Get to Know Yourself Better“.

Spend 5 minutes doing nothing. It may not sound like much, but taking 5 minutes to just be can actually take some practice. When you feel yourself thinking about all the things on your to-do list, acknowledge the thoughts, and then place them to the side for another day.

Gather up your art supplies, and make something! Paint a picture, make a new decor piece for your home, or even decorate the journal pages you just wrote in. Take some time to get your creative juices flowing!

Evening

As afternoon turns into evening, take a nap! Put some lavender essential oil on your pillow, have a hot cup of herbal tea, and give your body the rest it deserves. After a full day of relaxing, you’ll have no trouble falling asleep.

If you can’t see the sunset from your home, drive out to a nearby park or hilltop. Bring along a blanket and your favorite drink, and soak up the last of the days rays.

Try out that new dish you’ve been meaning to cook, and invite over some friends for dinner and a movie night! Have everyone bring a snack to share, bring out some fluffy blankets, and hunker down for a night of hanging out!

Looking to Splurge? Treat Yo Self!

Morning

Start your morning off by going into a local bookstore and buying yourself a brand new book, and then head to your favorite coffee shop to pick up your favorite drink and some breakfast. Spend a few hours reading your book, enjoying your cup of joe, and taking the time to slow down!

Sign up for an exercise class you’ve been eyeballing, and make yourself some water with orange slices and chia seeds to keep yourself hydrated. Listen to your body when you sign up: Does your body need movement and some extra cardio, or is it really craving something more low key that focuses on movement and stretching?

Afternoon

On your way home, buy a fresh bouquet of flowers from the farmers market or local flower shop, and a bottle of wine or champagne. Put some wine glasses or champagne flutes in your freezer – drinking alcohol out of a chilled glass always feels fancy, and is perfect for a Treat Yo Self Day!

Hit Sephora or Ulta for some at-home face, hand, and foot masks, and buy one new beauty product that makes you feel spoiled. For ideas on products under $10, we’ve got you covered in our “10 Beauty Buys for Under $10 at Sephora” post!

Get a massage, and splurge on the fun extras like essential oils and hot stones. If the spa has options like a sauna, steam room, or mineral tub, show up for the massage early and take full advantage of those too!

Evening

Pull out the beauty products you scored at Sephora, and finish pampering yourself with face, foot, and hand masks. Go ahead and binge-watch that new Netflix show you’ve been meaning to start!

Nothing says Treat Yo Self like not having to cook – so order in food for dinner tonight! Don’t forget to use those chilled wine glasses and your new bottle of wine. After dinner, go on a ‘pajama run’: Put on your comfiest clothes and drive through somewhere like Sonic to grab some dessert to top off the night.

Money is No Option? Treat Yo Self!

Morning

Start off your day by going to your favorite breakfast place; order a mimosa or coffee to go with it, and take the time to enjoy having the whole morning to yourself!

Hit the shops, and buy yourself that new outfit you’ve been wanting so you have something new to wear tonight. While you’re out, drop by your favorite beauty store and get something that will make you feel spoiled!

Afternoon

Before your Treat Yo Self Day, hire someone to come and clean your house for you while you’re out getting pampered at the spa. Not only will you feel amazing, your home will too!

Head to the spa, and get yourself the full package: Mani/pedi, facial, and massage. Get the little extras you usually wouldn’t splurge on, and bring your favorite book or magazine to read while you’re relaxing.

Evening

Get all gussied up and go out to a restaurant you’ve been meaning to try. Order whatever sounds best, paying no attention to the cost, and order yourself a fun drink too! Order dessert to go, so you can enjoy it cuddled up on the couch.

Finish the night off with a movie or Netflix show and some dessert in your freshly cleaned home. Bring out a fluffy blanket, light your favorite candle, and make your space feel as cozy and relaxing as you can.

Treat Yo Self Day is not yet the national holiday it should be, but that doesn’t mean you can’t celebrate it as a personal day every few months! Pick a time on your calendar, schedule your next Treat Yo Self Day, and start planning.
