Growing up I hated BBQ. Why you ask? I blame this one on my mother. I blame her for cooking little dried out pieces of chicken and covering them (in my opinion) in the absolute worst BBQ sauce on earth- KC Masterpiece. (Side note: I will say that my Mom is a VERY goo cook. So, I really can’t explain why she made this particular meal for my brothers and me when we were younger.) I thought that was all BBQ was and so I shied away form it for many years. In fact, if BBQ was an actual person, they probably would try to sue me for slander for all the smack I talked over the years.

Luckily, I was reintroduced to BBQ when I moved to Kansas City a few years ago and realized it could be so much more than those gross things I had as a kid. In fact, I really enjoy trying out new BBQ sauces (I prefer the spicier, tangy ones). I guess you could say I faced by fear of BBQ and came out ahead because I discovered how awesome these flavors could be!

The 4th of July is quickly approaching and this holiday is all about outdoor celebrations revolved around fire. Grilling & fireworks. While I have not found a connection between fireworks and BBQ beyond how I imagine my taste buds feel every time I treat them to the smoky greatness, I know grilling is synonymous with BBQ. However, being a guest of a cookout this year means I will not be preparing the traditional main dishes that BBQ sauce usually is associated with. Attending as a guest provides me the PERFECT opportunity to get creative with my use of these yummy Cookwell and Co. sauces!
